Races on CosmosMUDHere are the races a player can choose to be on Cosmos: FaernThe Faern are a slender humanoid race covered in hair. They grow to a max of 1.8 meters, with their average weight being 50 kilograms. Their hair can be any color, except green or purple. They originate from the fourth planet of Feli in the Gavin System. The Faern are very suspicious of other species, and generally don't communicate with anyone unless necessary. With their small size, the Faern have evolved to have good reflexes and a heightened awareness of their surroundings. While weaker, and not as smart as the other races, nobody is more stubborn than a Faern. This has brought about the phrase "As stubborn as a Faern" which other races use with scorn. IngiriThe Ingiri are an old, proud race. They grow to a little over 2 meters tall, and usually weight more than 100 kilograms. Almost all of their body is covered with short feathers. What was once their wings has become a flap of skin connecting their arms to their bodies. Over the millenia they have lost the ability to fly. Their feathers are almost any color, but the most common colors are white, grey, or black. The Ingiri once lived on the large fourth planet in the Adol System, named "Haywa". Over four hundred years ago the planet had been hit by a huge asteroid and ended up killing most of its life. The Ingiri had travelled to other systems before then, so the civilization is still intact. The Ingiri have weak bodies in most respects, due to the low gravity that was on Haywa. They have great perception of the things around them, however, and are known throughout the Galaxy for their marksman skill. In fact, they are the current champions in the "Kintoram Archers Competition", where they have to hit a standing credit from 500 meters with a scope-less laser rifle. Na'TikkalThe Na'Tikkal is a large reptilian race which originated on the desert world of Na, found as the second planet in the Frahi system. The desert environment has produced a thick scaly hide on the Na'Tikkal. They grow to an average of three meters long, and can weigh up to 300 kilograms. Their skin ranges from dark to light green or dark to light brown, which sheds away every two Terran years. The Na'Tikkal is currently at war with the Ssparynn, although it has been said there are people from each side which don't agree with it and remain neutral. Although the bodies of the Na'Tikkal are large and clumsy, their minds are the sharpest in the known universe. The Na'Tikkal are well known for their calculating intelligence. "As cold as a Na'Tikkal merchant" is an expression used by all races for heartlessness. QuaridiThe Quaridi are large carnivores who initially inhabited the forest regions of planet Kev in the Reglis System. They grow to 3.5 meters tall and weigh around 325 kilograms. Their immense body is covered with fur, having its color ranging from black, to brown or grey, and even some white. The Quaridi's sharp claws and ferocious teeth make it a formidable opponent in melee combat. Only a few of them have actually left their homeworld, with them living in a non-technological society. Amiable in disposition, though not very bright, the Quaridi are well liked but kept at a distance. Their poor eyesight makes them quite clumsy and this, coupled with their great size and strength, makes them unwelcome among more fragile races. In particular the Ingiri would prefer to have several light years between their precious eggs and any Quaridi. SsparynnThe Ssparynn are a slender reptilian race that originated in the Swampy region on planet Ryss, the third planet in the Frahi system. They grow to a little over 2 meters in height and can weigh anywhere from 50 to 125 kilograms. Their skin color varies from the most common bluish-grey to green to even a pale yellow. Ever since they developed Fusion Drives for interplanetary travel, they have been at war with the Na'Tikkal, their system neighbors. Ssparynn are quite frail and weak. They are, however, quite clever and retain the sinuous dexterity of their snakelike ancestors. Their dexterity and cleverness has made some Ssparynn the most successful and notorious thieves in the universe. Although few Ssparynn are criminals of any sort, the reputation of those few have tainted the rest and most Ssparynn are viewed with suspicion and mistrust. TerranThis race grows to an average of 2 meters in height and can weigh up to 140 kilograms. Its skin color ranges from pinkish to dark brown, and is sensitive to outer stimuli. Their hair is concentrated on the top of the head and grows sparsely everywhere else, and its color can be black or brown, red or even whitish yellow. The Terran's homeworld is named Earth, the third planet in the Sol system. However, they have managed to colonize elsewhere in the Galaxy with some success. Although they are neither the smartest, strongest nor swiftest of the intelligent species, they are certainly the most numerous. This is because they are one of the few known intelligent species that has no fixed mating season and breed year round. Terran mating habits make them the most common subject of dirty jokes, known as "pink jokes" because of the predominant Terran skin color. TolThe Tol are the oldest of all the known spacefaring races. The population pressures of hive living and the problem solving abilities of a hive mind sent them out among the stars at a point in their evolution where other races were still discovering the uses of fire and the wheel. Outside of the hive-colonies on their homeworlds, Tol are never seen together in any numbers. Those few who leave the hives are lone scouts and explorers. The Tol skin is actually an articulated exoskeleton of a chitinous material that molts once a year in a range of earth tones from dull brown to bright green. This exoskeleton makes them extremely tough and resistant to damage. Although the hive minds of the Tol can function like extraordinarily powerful living computers, individual Tol are extremely stupid and easily dominated. This is undoubtedly a good thing for the other races because if the Tol had mental abilities to match their physical toughness they would be virtually unstopppable. |
